We wish to cultivate a culture of everyday care that fosters community resilience. We envision a community where support flows through us like mycelium, quietly connecting us through shared meals, repaired homes, warm conversations, and open doors, embodying the spirit of mutual aid.
We believe that small acts done together can enhance community support and transform the world. We are here to help build those roots.
Hard Knox Mutual Aid is built by the people for the people, fostering community resilience through mutual support. We believe everyone deserves access to food, housing, dignity, and belonging. By working together to meet each other’s needs directly through shared resources, collective problem solving, and everyday acts of care, we strengthen our community support systems.
Our work is rooted in the belief that communities thrive when we practice solidarity instead of charity, supporting each other without conditions or judgment, while honoring the dignity and worth of every person.
We aim for cooperation, not competition, as we recognize that we are all leaders in this effort. Together, we are building the community we need, one relationship at a time.
We treat social media as our town square, a living place where neighbors gather, share stories, ask for community support, and offer what they have.
Instead of letting these spaces divide us, we use them to build community resilience and dignity. Facebook becomes the place where we find each other in real time, where needs are seen and met, and where mutual aid can move quickly through the community.
Our approach is simple: meet people where they already are, turn conversation into action, and show that even in the digital world, we can choose to care for one another.

Amber is a former elementary school teacher and a thoughtful writer. As a Navy spouse, she lived in Japan, Scotland, Florida, and Virginia before returning home to Mount Vernon to raise her family. Now a stay-at-home parent to two children, each requiring the world to meet them in specific and thoughtful ways, her experiences have deepened her compassion and understanding of how life becomes complex in unique and personal ways. Amber loves gardening and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others, despite her back not always agreeing. She also enjoys puzzles, games, and any craft within reach. Her hopes for mutual aid include fostering community resilience by creating meaningful and mindful work opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities, and building a community where everyone feels connected, valued, and able to share joy with one another.
